Joint Press Release by Ogaden National Liberation Front-ONLF, Front for Independence of Oromia-FIO, Sidama National Liberation Organisation-SNLO, Front for the Independence and Democratic Oromia-FIDO and Union of Western Somalia Liberation Front-UWSLF November 19, 2008 I. Union of Western Somali Liberation Front (UWSLF) Joins a Strategic Understanding of the Liberation Fronts and Organisations. Some of the core principles of the Liberation Fronts and Organisations under Abyssinian colonial yoke who have established a strategic Understanding is a step towards the unity of purpose and ideals we all uphold on decolonization, humanity, respects for basic rights and human dignity-and our staunch believe in human liberty, independence, choice for descent life and respect for democratic and God given rights for peoples of the Empire and beyond. UWSLF upholds all the aforementioned basic elements on humanity and shares strategic goals we aspire to achieve in longer term. Based on these principal understandings, the quadruple- the ONLF, FIO, SNLO and FIDO delegates; after they have consulted their respective Fronts and Organisations-unanimously agreed and accepted UWSLF as a full member in their strategic Understanding as of 18th of November 2008. II. Truth about the Abyssinian Barbarism, Since Abyssinian ruling class colonised the nations of this region who have had their identities and governance systems of their own to bring the Abyssinian Empire to the today's geo-political shape in late 1880s; their successive murderous regimes committed various forms of crimes against humanity and cultural and social genocides against the colonised nations. Currently, Meles Zenawi's most criminal and murderous regime that is supported by the Western politicians is playing the same music with slightly different tune while the global community is keeping silent and or even sponsoring the suffering of the nations under his regime's occupation. The said successive regimes have been also supported by their European counterparts notably- by the Britain during the scramble for Africa and by doing so they have also facilitated genocides perpetrated against the Abyssinian colonies. Ironically, Abyssinian colonial expansion of late 1880s also coincides with exact period of European colonial powers' 'Scramble for Africa' that made and is strategically still making most countries of the continent battlefield where people fight with each other for nothing fundamental- but to satisfy the interest of their colonial masters under the pretext of ethnic-conflicts and or racial tensions that is caused due the poisonous seeds sawn by these very colonial powers. Such is the game Meles's Abyssinian regime is playing to orchestrate various forms of conflicts between the colonised nations whose fates are determined by his brutal regime. Paradoxically, in the processes of massacres and genocides conducted against the innocent civilians, none of the African countries make fire-arms that kill millions of peoples all over the globe. The European and American governments are responsible to provide the killers with all the necessary killing machines those help African nation's despotic dictators (who are supported by the said powerful nations) to massacre helpless civilians. Their fire-arms and others weapons are causing unfolding tragedy to the civilians all over the African countries with varying degrees and magnitudes. Therefore, the powerful Western nations politicians' hypocritical act remain one of the underlying causes for the entire human suffering in the developing world in general, in Africa in particular. In late 1880s, Europeans also gave full military and fire-arms assistance to the Abyssinian most barbaric king Minelik's army that brutalised and invaded Oromo land, Sidama-land, Ogadenia, Wolayita land, Afar land, Gedeo and Hadiya and Kambata land, Gambella, Benshangul-Gumuzi land and other nations whose identities have been obliterated by their assimilationist ideology to replace them with theirs. Such is also the support Meles's regime is currently receiving from the U.S.A's George W. Bush's administration to commit crimes against humanity on Ogaden Somali people (see June 12, 2008 Human Rights Watch HRW), and various forms of genocides on Oromo, Sidama, Gambellas, Gedeos, Wolayita's and the rest over 44 Southern Abyssinian empire nations with distinct identities who are amalgamated together to be ruled easily whilst their resources are being expropriated by the successive rulers to keep their highlanders richer and most beneficiaries; while the entire nations of the South including the Sidama; Oromia, Afar, Ogadenia, Gambellas, and the rest colonised nation are excruciatingly starving to death in their respective ever green lands. III. The Current Meles's Abyssinian Regime Apart from creating pseudo-regional governments by the handpicked pariah -loyalists-traitors who all totally, diligently serve his regime's interests and further implement the policies of divide and rule tactics between the nations of various backgrounds to pseudo-represent the colonised nations; his regime did nothing new; but purely repeating the same tragic acts against the nations under his colonial rule- if not worst. From the real scenarios that characterise Meles's Abyssinian Empire, the following are some of the numerous including ultra-poverty, various forms of human misery that is orchestrated by his regimes socio-economic and political policies, extra-judiciary killings, imprisonments and disappearances, assassinations, crimes against humanity and various forms of genocides, total absences of freedom of speech and lack of political representation for colonised nations, repressions and intimidations and others countless injustices under which the colonised nations are languishing. Such tragedy remained happening for over the period of 120 years. Meles Zenawi is one of heinous leaders ever Abyssinia had in terms of showing green cards to the donors while killing thousands of innocent civilians directly or indirectly behind the curtain in his empire. He is also capable of manoeuvring Western politicians to his favour to bring them to the tables of vested interests and deceives international donors by showing his paper oriented policies such as his constitution that claims for granting rights for the nations of the Empire to the extent of secession. In reality, peoples such as over 5 million populated Sidama nation citizens were massacred by Meles's security forces claiming their basic and constitutional rights for regional autonomy on May 24, 2002 's in their capital city Awassa (Hawassa), let alone the rights for independence. The same is true for the Oromo, Ogadenia, Afar, Gambella and the rest colonies. IV. The Wave of Oromo Imprisonment in the Capital City (Finfinnee) and beyond The recent waves of imprisonments that has purely targeted the Oromo profiles by the Meles's Abyssinian regime is part and parcels of the ongoing intimidation, harassments and psychological war to cause fear and insecurity between those Oromo nationals who aspire for their national independence. Equally, the regime is keeping the said Oromo high profiles in jail during the anticipated times for the visits of collaborators and traitors who are prepared to sale their national interest and decided to compromise their stride to the independence. The U-turn of any group to negotiate with colonisers and their lack of vision and courage to accept the fact that the only solution for Oromo and others colonised nations remain de-colonisation;- is therefore serious failure in the history of the Oromo's liberation struggle and tantamount suicidal. However, their complete debacle remains theirs! The time for the liberation of the Oromo's Ogadenia's, the Sidamas, Afar and the rest nations under Abyssinian colonial yoke will never be far, although we believe that the struggle will be very demanding that needs enormous courage, determination, unity of purposes, liberation of mind, indefatigability and great deal of optimism!! Given these all irrefutable facts, the liberation Organisations and Fronts:- the ONLF, FIO, the SNLO, the FIDO and UWSLF:- 1. Strongly condemn the extra-judiciary arrests that in recent few weeks targeting Oromo nation's high profiles by Meles's Abyssinian regime and unconditionally urge his regime to stop such criminality against innocent Oromo citizens and release them without further delay! 2. Strongly condemn the blockage of aid to the Ogaden region and ask international democracy loving and humanitarian organisation to urge Meles's murderous regime to stop using the sufferings of the innocents and aid for his usual political purposes! 3. Unconditionally ask Meles regime to stop orchestrating unnecessary conflicts between colonised nations of the empire regardless of their regions as a part of divide and rule tactics! 4. Strongly denounce and totally reject hideously inhuman acts of Abyssinian tyrannical regime of Meles against the southern Ethiopian nations in general, on Sidama nation in particular and further urge his brutal regime to stop instigating clan divisions and conflicts within the Sidama nation that is masterminded by the Sidama collaborator pariahs who have implemented the order of the massacre of over 69 Sidama unarmed civilians, on May 24, 2002 and currently brutalising their own nation! 5. Emphatically condemn and categorically denounce the immoral and hypocritical acts of the Western powerful nation's politicians and strongly advise them to stand for their ideals such as respect for God-given and genuine democratic rights instead of surrendering their people's genuine ideals for their vested interest that is targeted in satisfying their geo-political strategies at the expense of the helpless, powerless and the most vulnerable!
